Tonsai Tower of Phi Phi offers close to 25 routes in that range, single and multi-pitch alike.

But all of them will afford you a unique view of this paradise island.

Drinking Wall

Steep hike but worth it. Sector higher up in the jungle offers some of the best limestone in Thailand. Beware of left-side sector bolts that look like glue-ins but are not. In fact, some of them you can turn by hand. Easier routes on the right sector have been rebolted. To distinguish the two you must see the excess of glue on the outside of the bolt.

Ao Ling Wall

Prominent buttress on the left of Tonsai Tower is accessible in low tide (walking) or a five minute boat ride.

Hua-Ling (Monkey Head)

Twenty minutes by boat from Charlie Beach its possible to find a long tail boat to take you to a tower with two stunning multi-pitch climbs straight out of the boat. Land on a small rock (difficult landing at low tide). A very airy and exposed climb.

Monsun 7a

Starts on the same small rock as previous climb. Difficult stemming takes you straight up and left to the same anchor as third pitch of Djamuuk-Ling. Another classic not to be missed.

Koh Phi Phi Leh

Ao Pilay Wall in a small bay, 10 minutes left of Viking Bird Nest Cave, located over a small beach right side as you go in. Again at low tide watch out for sea-urchins. The right-facing corner, with a huge roof, on the left side of the beach, is called Black Tip Shark 6c.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-1891730936767881372008-07-07T00:12:00.000-07:002008-07-07T00:13:54.111-07:00Game Fishing around Phi PhiThe Andaman Sea is home to all the classic prize fighters of the fish world. Black Marlin, Giant Travelly, Sailfish, and Shark.

Yellowfin, Dogtooth and Skipjack, Tuna are common, while Wahoo are plentiful during the monsoon season(June - October.)

Boat charter is available, or join a trip with other individuals (depends on demand) or hire a local longtail boat. Don't expect to take your fish home though, operates a "catch and release" policy to maintain the stock of these remarkable fish.

Because of the topography of the sea bed around Phi Phi and Phuket, before you get into fairly deep water (say around 100m) where there's more chance of landing that trophy size catch. You'll need to be offshore a fair distance. So a sport-fishing boat is recommended.

The crew's are experienced and will organize all the equipment setup and baiting if you like. All that's left for you is the fun part!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-66784247353258452372008-07-07T00:11:00.000-07:002008-07-07T00:12:47.383-07:00Phi Phi KayakingIf it's not already on your "must do" list pick up a pen and change it. By far one of the best ways to see Phi Phi picture perfect limestone cliffs, mangrove inlets, caves, and varied marine and bird life.

Many companies offer canoe tours around Phi Phi Don and the neighbouring islands, with tours combining kayaking, snorkeling and even shark watching! Meet the sharks for breakfast! Don't worry the sharks here are not the Hollywood type and have little or no interest in humans. Black-tip reef sharks and Leopard Sharks are beautiful but shy an timid.

Kayaking tours can be high energy and action packed with surging waves, caves, and blowholes, or more gentle relaxed paddling, depending on the season and the tour. Paddle during the day, visiting islands, snorkeling and swimming or take a sunset paddle and return by torchlight under the stars!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-59931828483482904442008-07-07T00:10:00.000-07:002008-07-07T00:11:39.226-07:00Snorkeling on Phi PhiHuge coral gardens and exotic tropical fish galore is probably one of the best snorkeling spots anywhere. Depths vary from 2-7 metres (6-20 feet) and visibility is crystal clear. You can hire equipment from any of the local dive shops, but it's worth taking a tour to the reefs which fringe the islands.

Tours also go to offshore reefs (about 1.5 km) which contain more unusual marine life. As a plus, by selecting a snorkeling trips with a guide available, he/she will be able to identify what you are looking at and give you a better understanding of the world your exploring. Almost everything relies on a symbiotic relationship with other creatures and once you see how they interact with each other, it really starts to get interesting.

Masks and snorkels are normally included in the price, although these may be of varied shapes and sizes! Some operators have quality equipment while others have a standard mask and fins in limited sizes, so shop around, otherwise your underwater views may be limited.

Notable sites to visit - Maya Bay - location for the Hollywood film "The Beach" with good reef and wall corals. Camel Rock - for strange cave fish, Hin Klang for more remote coral gardens, and Hin Phae for shark watching.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-51376500884880193592008-07-07T00:02:00.000-07:002008-07-07T00:08:38.673-07:00Phi Phi Scuba Diving CenterPhi Phi Scuba Diving Center, the largest dive school on the island, providing fun, friendly dive tuition and recreation for all levels and ages.

Normally, even local dives have an early start (around 8 am) and you'll return by around about 3 p.m. Plenty of time to spend the rest of the afternoon on the beach. There are some dive companies on the island that provide an alternative for the late risers with afternoon trips 1pm to 5pm. (meals are normally provided on both these trips).

PADI courses are also widely available, from Discover Scuba to Dive-Master and a Scuba Review is also worth considering if it’s been a while since your last dive.

Shark Point
This easy dive follows an area of submerged rocks immediately northeast of the outcrop. These gently slope down northwards to sand at 18m.

Divers can enjoy shoals of colourful Reef-Fish, including Blue-lined Snapper and Harlequin Sweet Lips, not to mention more static attractions like multicoloured Plume Worms, Feather Stars and Crinoids.

This location's name refers to the overwhelming presence of Leopard Sharks. There are also lots of Cuttlefish, Squid and Titan Triggerfish. Large Undulated and Golden Moray Eels, Spiny Lobsters and Octopuses attempt to obscure themselves within the many craggy holes and crevices.

Location: This three star dive site is a small rocky outcrop about 8km southeast of Phi Phi Ley.

Bida Noi/Bida Nok
The prime two spots in the southwest section, where large rocks form a mountainous terrain, featuring walls that drop to elevated ledges.

Varying sizes and species of colourful Parrotfish and Wrasse, along with large shoals of Moorish Idols, seem to be at all depths. The higher ledges have numerous Sea Anemones well populated by Clownfish.

On top of all this you can very often find Leopard Sharks over the sand and various Blennies and Gobies. Even Manta Rays and Whale Sharks are often found here!

Location: This two three star dive sites are two large outcrops directly south of Phi Phi Ley.

Hin Dot
Conditions permitting, is a great multi-level dive. The pinnacle is dominated by three interesting shelves- at 3m, 12m and 15m. Providing ample and varied underwater scenery at all levels as you explore with your guide.

The deeper sections of the walls have numerous oysters and calms clinging to, and embedded in, the craggy surface.

Many Reef Fish can be seen including Lunar Wrasse, Parrot Fish, Honeycomb Grouper, Spot Fin and Indian Lion Fish. Bearded Lion Fish lurk among the coralline-encrusted rocks awaiting their prey of tiny fish.

Location: This three star dive site is a submerged pinnacle off Koh Phi Phi Don's southwestern headlands.

Cavern Dive (Wang Long)
You should have done this cavern dive once in your live! Follow your guide down to 16m depth, where the tunnel to the open cave starts.

After a 30min dive you will end up in an open cave, where you can breathe fresh air, take a look around and remove the gear for a short walk.

NB. Special equipment and training are required for cavern diving and should always be undertaken with an experienced guide.

Please Note Cavern Diving is very different from Cave diving as you must still observe the maximum depth guidelines for PADI recreational diving which is a maximum of 40m (measured vertically and horizontally from the surface).

Location: This three star dive site is an open cave behind Phi Phi Don called Wang Long.

Night Dive
The local sites around Phi Phi Ley, the smaller of the two island is favoured by many dive sites due to location and conditions.

With several bays providing perfect conditions, sheltered from currents and perfect depth. This means for new and experienced night divers alike it’s a perfect location to witness the Andaman sea’s more nocturnal inhabitants go about their nightly business.

If you’re unsure about doing a night dive, speak to one of the instructors or visit the Phi Phi Diving Forum and see what everyone else has to say. You could also consider easing yourself into things with a dusk dive.

Location: Several bays around Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Ley.

King Cruiser
On 4th of May 1997, the King Cruiser car ferry bottomed on Anemone Reef. Some 17 minutes later it was settling down for the remainder of its existence in 32m of water.

The structure of King Cruiser attracts a high diversity of marine life and the formation of an artificial reef is well underway; numerous invertebrates have taken to shelter beneath small sheets of Peeling Paint and Morays lie in wait under rows of seats, now acting as lairs.

Daylight penetrates the majority of the wreck but there is still a number of areas that would be better explored with the aid of an artificial light source.

Location: 18 km west of Phi Phi

Shark Point (Phuket)
Shark Point consists of three pinnacles lying north to south which between them have a high proportion of both Hard and Soft Corals in all depths. All manners of reef residents animate the otherwise fixed patterns of color. Sea Anemones for instance Sway Back and Forth in mild currents and wave erratically in stronger flowers.

Between the pinnacles the Seabed is fairly barren. The Leopard Sharks rest here and many a diver has had the wonderful experience of observing at close hand this harmless bottom feeder. A required interaction continues at the sites many cleaning stations which are hosted by a multitude of Cleaning Fish and Shrimps. Regular customers include a variety of Snappers, Jacks, Trevally, Mackerel and the occasional Barracuda.

Location: 18 km west of Phi Phi

Anemone Reef
The concentration of marine life throughout the site has seemingly increased two-fold. The shallowest part sits in a mere seven meters below the water's surface and is literally covered in Sea Anemones hosted by numerous species of Clown Fish, though closer inspection reveals even more symbiotic residents including tiny Anemone Crabs and clear Cleaner Shrimps, only visible by their translucent internal organs.

As far as the corals go enormous healthy Gorgonian Sea Fans backdrop hovering prides of Indian Lionfish and large clusters of radiant Soft Corals more than adequately disguised paired Harlequin ghost Pipe Fish.

Location: 18 km west of Phi PhiUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-14150822514832714272007-11-12T04:35:00.001-08:002007-11-12T04:35:02.967-08:00Post-tsunami reconstructionAfter the tsunami, approximately 70% of the buildings on the island had been destroyed. By the end of July 2005, an estimated 850 bodies had been recovered, and an estimated 1,200 people were still missing. The total number of fatalities is unlikely to be known however local tour guides cite the figure of 4,000. Of Phi Phi Don residents, 104 surviving children had lost one or both parents.
In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, the island was evacuated. The Thai government declared the island temporarily closed while a new zoning policy was drawn up. Many transient Thai workers returned to their home towns, and former permanent residents were housed in a refugee camp at Nong Kok in Krabi province.
However, in late January 2005, a former Dutch resident of Phi Phi, Emile Kok, set up a voluntary organization, Help International Phi Phi. Hi Phi Phi recruited 68 Thai staff from the refugee camp, as well as transient backpacker volunteers (of whom more than 3,500 offered their assistance), and returned to the island to undertake clearing and rebuilding work. On February 18, 2005, a second organization, Phi Phi Dive Camp , was set up to remove the debris from the bays and coral reef, most of which was in Ton Sai Bay.
By the end of July 2005, 23,000 tonnes of debris had been removed from the island, of which 7,000 tonnes had been cleared by hand. "We try and do as much as possible by hand," said Kok, "that way we can search for passports and indentification." The majority of buildings that were deemed fit for repair by government surveyors had been repaired, and three hundred businesses had been restored. Hi Phi Phi was nominated for a Time Magazine Heroes of Asia award .
On October 31, 2005, Deputy Prime Minister Pinit Jarusombat proposed an upgrade to the hotels and restaurants on Phi Phi Don, and a limitation to the number of tourists visiting. "It'll help us preserve its environment," said Pinit. However, after consultation with residents and land-owners, many of whom opposed the plan, the Bangkok Post reported on February 17, 2006, that the proposals would not affect Phi Phi.
As of 6 December 2005, nearly 1,500 hotel rooms were open, and a tsunami early warning alarm system had been installed by the Thai government, with the help of volunteers.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-46613429318923281972007-11-12T04:33:00.002-08:002007-11-12T04:33:22.875-08:002004 tsunamiOn 26 December 2004, much of the inhabited part of Phi Phi Don was devastated by the Indian Ocean Tsunami. The island's main village, Ton Sai (Banyan Tree, Thai: ต้นไทร), is mainly built on a sandy isthmus between the island's two long, tall limestone ridges. On both sides of Ton Sai are semicircular bays lined with beaches. The isthmus rises to less than two metres (six feet) above sea level.

Shortly after 10 am on the morning of 26 December, the water from both bays receded. When the tsunami hit, at 10.37 am, it did so from both bays, and met in the middle of the isthmus. The wave that came into Ton Sai Bay was 3 metres (10 feet) high. The wave that came into Loh Dalum Bay was 6.5 metres (18 feet) high. The force of the larger wave from Loh Dalum Bay pushed debris south-westwards into Ton Sai Bay.
The tsunami also breached low-lying areas in the limestone karsts, passing from Laa Naa Bay to Bakhao Bay, and at Laem Thong (Sea Gypsy Village), where 11 people died. Apart from these breaches, the eastern side of the island experienced only flooding and strong currents.
At the time of the tsunami, the island had an estimated 10,000 occupants, including tourists.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-64666048673354818112007-11-12T04:30:00.000-08:002007-11-12T04:30:28.449-08:00The Phi Phi Islands (Thai: หมู่เกาะพีพี) are located in Thailand, between the large island of Phuket and the western Andaman Sea coast of the mainland. Phi Phi Don, the larger and principal of the two Phi Phi islands, is located at 7°44′00″N, 98°46′00″E. Both Phi Phi Don, and Phi Phi Leh, the smaller, are administratively part of Krabi province, most of which is on the mainland, and is located at 8°02′30″N, 98°48′39″E.

Ko Phi Phi Don ("ko" (Thai: เกาะ) meaning "island" in the Thai language) is the largest island of the group, and is the only island with permanent inhabitants, although the beaches of the second largest island, Ko Phi Phi Lee (or "Ko Phi Phi Leh"), are visited by many people as well. There are no accommodation facilities on this island, but it is just a short boat ride from Ko Phi Phi Don. The rest of the islands in the group, including Bida Nok, Bida Noi, and Bamboo Island, are not much more than large limestone rocks jutting out of the sea.

Phi Phi Don was initially populated by Muslim fishermen during the late 1940s, and later became a coconut plantation. The Thai population of Phi Phi Don remains more than 80% Muslim.

Ko Phi Phi Leh was the backdrop for the 2000 movie The Beach. Phi Phi Leh also houses the 'Viking Cave', from which there is a thriving bird's nest soup industry. There was criticism during filming of 'The Beach' that the permission granted to the film company to physically alter the environment inside Phi Phi Islands National Park was illegal.
Following the release of The Beach, tourism on Phi Phi Don increased dramatically, and with it the population of the island. Many buildings were constructed without planning permission.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-33508101944509999762007-11-09T06:48:00.001-08:002008-12-10T10:46:56.854-08:00

Phi Phi Island Map
Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-85454765498443271852007-10-02T02:42:00.000-07:002008-12-10T10:47:12.035-08:00Phi Phi island

Welcome to Phi PhiWelcome to Pardise
Just a short 45-minute journey from Phuket, will transport you to the tropical paradise and famous islands of Koh Phi Phi. At the north end is Cape Laem Thong, where there is a Chao Ley, or sea gipsy village. These sea gypsies emigrated from Koh Lipeh in Tarutao National Park, near the border with Malaysia. Diving at Laem Thong is excellent, as it is also at Hua Rah Ket to the extreme south. There are long beaches with rocks scattered about. The island is entirely limestone and steep cliffs rising from the sea very nearly ring it. Surrounding waters averageabout 20 meters in depth, reaching 34 meters at the deepest point off the island's southern tip. Phi Phi Ley has several beautiful bays : Pileh, Maya and Loh Samah ; Ao Pileh is very nearly enclosed by the limestone walls of the island's cliffs, so that the water appears almost to be an island sea. On Phi Phi Ley's northeast is the famous Viking Cave; this was renamed by H.M.Rama IX when he visited it in 1972, Tam Pya Nak, from the shape of a particular boulder, which resembles in shape the head of the great serpent of Buddhist legend, the Naga. It is a place much revered by the local people who come there to collect the swift's nests used to make Bird's Nest Soup, a Chinese delicacy. On the eastern and southern walls of the cave are colored drawings dating from historic times. There are pictures of elephants and also of various boats : European, Arab and Chinese sailing ships ; baroques, motorboats, and steamships. It is theorized that these pirates who paused in their travels from west to east, sheltering in the cave to escape the monsoon winds, transfer cargo, or make repairs. THE RESORT IS DESIGNED AS A SELF CONTAINED VILLAGE COMPOSED OF VERY COMFORTABLE ,INDIVIDUAL HALES. THE SPA IS FABULOUS AND WELL PRICED, AND THE POOL IS WONDERFUL. EVERYWHERE THERE ARE SMALL ,YET BEAUTIFULLY CREATIVE TOUCHES---FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS EVERYWHERE. THE FOOD IS GOOD, THE SERVICE EXCELLENT, BUT DRINKS OF ANY KIND ARE A LITTLE PRICEY.THE BEACH IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT IT IS SO SHALLOW FOR SO LONG(1000METERS) THAT WALKING OUT TO SNORKLE IS IMPOSSIBLE. THE BOAT TOURS THAT TAKE YOU OUT TO GO SNORKELING ARE QUITE EXPENSIVE!! ABOUT $50 US PER PERSON!! I WOULD RECOMMEND THIOS PLACE TO ANYONE.

Ian Biggs

Pee Pee Island Village Beach Resort & Sp, Phi Phi Island, Loh Ba Gao BayWe had a fabulous time. We were unsure when we booked as nobody seemed to be able to confirm what the real star rating was and the actual information about the hotel was a little scarce. However, from arriving at Phuket airport we were met and taken to the port where we caught the ferry. At Tonsai a hotel representative joined the ferry and then took all our baggage off the boat for us when we arrived at the hotel by ferry. Whilst there was no pier we never got our feet wet and there was a welcome for us with a cocktail and a wet towel. The beachside villa we had booked was great and there was a huge shower, English TV channels, a place to sit outside under cover and the room was serviced every day. The beach was great, the water was warm and clean and great for children as it was shallow. We spent most of our time on the beach although the swimming pool was fantastic with a swim up bar. The service was impeccable and nothing was too much. Most of the staff spoke reasonable english and there was plenty to do. Of course it is an isolated place with no cars and it was what we wanted, total relaxation for a week, good food, wonderful massages at the spa and there was a pub with a great Phillipino band every night. It was easy to grab a water taxi and go into Tonsai and eat in the many restaurants. However the hotel laid on many buffets and fresh fish on most nights. there were lots of activities available including snorkelling, diving, visits to Phi Phi Le, where they filmed The Beach, visits to the island where the filmed the James Bond film the Man with the Golden Gun. beach volley ball or even joining in for a game of football with the locals!! We wish we had booked a few more nights there and were very disappointed to be going home, however the hotel turned out to be everything we wanted and it was without doubt 5 star quality. For some people it would be too quiet as they may want discos and pubs etc, but for us we wanted a ralaxing holiday, with good food and a traditional style of Thai culture. My only criticism is the easy chairs in the room could have been a little more comforable to watch TV and some of the beach chairs needed replacing. However these were really minor details.

Susana from Spain

Pee Pee Island Village Beach Resort & Sp, Phi Phi Island, Loh Ba Gao BayHotel is beautiful, location is paradise. There are no more hotels in this beach, you have your very own private separate bungalow which is huge and so well equipped (and we stayed in the standard one!), staff is extremely nice and smiling, you feel like you are in happyland. The beach is nice, you can swim from 9.30-3.00, then the water disappears but you have an amazing swimming pool for the rest of the day. You can do small trecks around as well. However, the activity center is very expensive and not very helpul and you are far away from the town to book with any other tour agent. Location is good for those who just want to relax. If you need action you should stay in the Long Beach area maybe or in the village (but i found it too crowded and too busy even in low season!!). The resort is very good. In low season you have to go to Phi Phi Don village by ferry and then you meet people from the hotel that will take you there. They charge you 200 bhat one way included in your check-out bill... Good price i guess but you share the boat with other guests. I recommend this hotel for those who want to relax and feel like in heaven.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-15551422994263167512007-09-03T14:33:00.001-07:002008-12-10T10:47:16.158-08:00 Welcome to Phi Phi Island Village, Beach Resort and Spa, Krabi, "One of the world's most beautiful island". Therefore guests can enjoy a relaxing quiet beach holiday with outstanding views but still have access to many other restaurants, shops and activities.

Transportation

The overseas and domestic flights must be carefully checked to fit with boat schedule as detailed below. Just a 45-minute jaunt from Phuket, these picture postcard islands offer the ultimate tropical getaway. Classic beaches, stunning rock formations, and vivid turquoise waters teeming with colourful marine life - it's paradise perfected.
There are two islands, Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Lei. The larger and inhabited, Phi Phi Don attracts hundreds of visitors to stay on its lovely shores.
Yes, there was a tsunami, and yes, it hit Phi Phi hard. But in most places, you'd never know. Construction is still underway on the isthmus between Ton Sai Bay - the main landing area and commerce centre of Phi Phi Don - and Loh Dalam Bay. The other side of the island was sheltered from the worst and remains undisturbed. Along the northeast coast, the famed soft sand beaches - fringed by swaying coconut palms and vibrant coral reefs nearby - look better than ever. Bottom line: Hotels everywhere are welcoming guests.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5038935640120356233.post-8340413840918576312007-09-03T14:29:00.000-07:002008-12-10T10:47:19.352-08:00P.P Erawan Palms Resort
P.P Erawan Palms Resort

P.P Erawan Palms Resort
20 Rooms , Price from 1,770 Baht (Approx 55 US$)

P.P Erawan Palms Resort, is a luxury beach front resort with Thai island style accommodation, located on leamtong Beach (Cape of God), the northern most beach of Phi Phi Don Island.
